Baby Humble #3: 2nd Trimester

The 2nd trimester kicked off with more energy, normal eating habits again, and lots of nesting/planning for Baby! Overall, this has felt like my smoothest pregnancy, so far (fingers crossed it continues that way). With gender confirmed, we are officially into name brainstorming and planning phases. I've had so much fun coming up with a theme and DIY projects for this Baby! Here are some more in-depth details of what's been going on for my 2nd trimester:

14 weeks - At 14 weeks, I spent about 6 hours in the ER with light spotting. Thankfully, Baby looked great on the ultrasound! My placenta was a little low, but all tests/blood work came back great, so I was cleared to go home, and there hasn't been any more spotting since.

15 weeks - Baby is the size of an apple. As long as Baby cooperates, this weekend will be the earliest we find out the gender of all our kiddos. With my first two pregnancies, we always waited until the anatomy scan at 18 weeks. This time we opted to do an early elective ultrasound to find out all together as a family. Due to new office policies, they won't be able to go to any of my appointments this pregnancy. So I am excited to find out all together! My daughter wants a sister, my son wants a brother, and I don't have a gut feeling one way or the other. I'm just excited to start making DIY projects and thinking about names once we find out.

18 weeks - Baby is the size of a pepper. My everyday life seems to be back to normal now. I'm enjoying the extra 2nd trimester energy, working out regularly, nesting majorly, and my appetite is back to normal again. So far, I've gone through a baked potato phase (in early pregnancy), and I'm currently in a broccoli and cauliflower phase. At least it's healthy, right? We did an early ultrasound a few weeks ago, and Baby was very difficult to determine the gender. Took over 15 minutes to get Baby to move from crossed ankles and legs curled in front...but we did find out! We're keeping the gender to ourselves until after the anatomy scan, just to confirm. But I will be doing an official announcement after that in a couple of weeks!

20 weeks - Baby is the size of a banana. We're officially at the halfway mark! This pregnancy has seemed to be flying by so far, which I am thankful for...but I'm also trying to just enjoy the process and not stress about all that I still need to do/figure out. I'm still feeling good with that 2nd trimester energy and focus. I haven't felt any Baby movements yet, but this is very normal for me. I had an anterior placenta with my first two pregnancies, which caused me not to feel movements until later (25 weeks with my first and 22 weeks with my second). We have our anatomy scan at the end of the week. I'm excited to see Baby again and praying for a healthy, growing little one. Stay tuned for the gender announcement to come soon!

22 weeks - Baby is the size of a hamburger. I had my anatomy scan at 20 weeks. Baby is measuring right on track, heart rate was 143, and everything looks perfect with me and Baby. We also confirmed Baby is a boy. I found out I have an anterior placenta again this pregnancy (which I thought). The midwife told me I could start feeling Baby movements any day, or it could still be weeks...funny enough I felt my first flutters later that same day at 20 1/2 weeks (the earliest out of all of my pregnancies). I'm now feeling more Baby movements each day, but still not consistent yet. Usually it's when I lie down. Pretty sure we're set on a middle name, but still searching for that perfect first name for Baby. I've been in a fruit and juice phase lately. And counting down until I get my In-N-Out later this week. I've been feeling a little more tired again lately, but I chalk it up to sickness that went around, typical summer craziness, and my screenwriting class that has me up late once a week. Overall still feeling pretty good for the most part. Shoes are harder to get on now, and I'm having to adjust everyday things as the belly keeps growing. I'm still keeping up with my yoga and getting plenty of walking, etc in. I'm working on some sewing projects for Baby and brainstorming others. I'm making a list of everything I need to accomplish before Baby's arrival and planning how to get Christmas stuff done early because I know I won't want to do much once Baby comes.

24 weeks - Baby is the size of an ear of corn. I survived pink eye and colds that went around the house between me and the kids. My appetite is at my pre-pregnancy normal, and I'm trying to get back into my workout routines after a couple of off weeks. I started wearing my belly band some of these last couple of weeks and haven't had any back pain yet. After a couple of weeks of feeling like I was staying the same size, I definitely feel like my belly has been growing again. I went on a solo week-long vacation to California for a convention and to visit my bestie. It was so nice and relaxing! Traveling was smooth for the most part (minus a couple of minor flight delays). I'm still in a fruit/juice phase and have been wanting lemonade and pasta more lately, too. I'm also missing my In-N-Out fries after having them multiple days on vacation. My Dr. appointments are still once a month, but it will start speeding up soon as I'm nearing the 3rd trimester. Everything has been going smoothly for me and Baby, thankfully...so far, this has felt like my smoothest pregnancy. I'm back to full planning and nesting mode for this little one! I've been making sewing projects, ordering some needed items, brainstorming nursery/decor ideas, and of course, still trying to figure out a name.

26 weeks - Baby is the size of a bowl of cereal. Not much new to report since my last update. The last couple of weeks, we have been on the go getting as many fun adventures in that we can while soaking up this summer weather. This upcoming month is going to be busy, busy too! Over the weekend, we went on a boat ride to Sand Dollar Island. I've been having fruit smoothies and hot tea almost every day. I had another regular doctor appointment, and everything looks good. Baby's heart rate was 145. I've been feeling stronger and more often, Baby kicks/movements for about a week now. I've been sewing projects for Baby and have made: washcloths, some onesies, my first blanket, and a special swaddle blanket. I'm still feeling good (thankfully) and am working hard to check things off my Baby to-do list and prepping for Christmas early.
